First study of its kind applied to a fishery and sociobiodiversity chain. The study allowed defining a general methodology based on the approach of True Cost Accounting (TCA) to quantify the difference between actual prices paid and fair prices that should be paid by the consumer market, considering an ideal remuneration embedded with social and environmental values. The results suggest evidence for the market and governments about the positive externalities of sustainable pirarucu management with the potential to influence the adoption of policies and economic interventions that generate adequate remuneration for local communities for their socio-ecological dynamics.
