Sitawi has completed another Financial Training for Impact Businesses, this time focusing on the sustainable Amazon rubber chain. The initiative took place in partnership with Chico Mendes Memorial and the IDAM, in the municipality of Manicoré (AM), a region with a strong extractive tradition.
Rubber as a symbol of the bioeconomy
Native Amazonian rubber is one of the symbolic products of the Brazilian bioeconomy. Extracted by extractivist families directly from the forest, it generates income without deforestation, ensuring the forest remains standing and valuing traditional knowledge.
Despite their socio-environmental value, many extractivists still do not recognize themselves as protagonists in the bioeconomy and sustainable development agenda. The training sought to promote this recognition.
Practical training adapted to the Amazonian reality
The training combined theory and practice with content tailored to the reality of the forest. During the training, organizations learned concepts such as bioeconomy, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and impact businesses.
Among the topics covered were financial management, crop planning, financial projections and the use of practical tools such as spreadsheets, cash books and artificial intelligence (AI). Throughout the workshops, they began to recognize their own ventures as businesses with a positive impact, working to preserve the forest and generate sustainable income.
Seven community organizations and extractive cooperatives that are part of the “Together for Rubber Extraction in the Amazon” arrangement, coordinated by Chico Mendes Memorial, being them: AMALCG, APAIGA, APRAMAD, ATININGA, BARREIRA, GOOD SUSPIRO and CAARIM.
More autonomy, more positive impact!
Many organizations still do not have sufficient structure to access credit, and one of the most powerful aspects of the training was the fundraising workshop through funding notices. Participants learned how to identify non-reimbursable financing opportunities, understand the required criteria and write more qualified proposals.
One of the training deliverables was the construction of an organizational overview, with a diagnosis of context, business model, production operations, financial situation and impacts. With this material and the support of AI tools, associations will have more autonomy to participate in public calls and strengthen their presence in the Amazon bioeconomy ecosystem.
As a result, these organizations are better prepared to plan for the future, make strategic decisions and expand their role as agents of sustainable development.
