Ensuring legal protection for human rights defenders, civil society entities and individuals who have their constitutional rights and individual freedoms violated is one of the premises that guide the actions of the Fundo Rede Liberdade.
The network, formed by lawyers and representatives of civil society organizations, began in 2019 with the aim of legally protecting activists and social leaders who have historically strengthened the guarantee of constitutional freedoms. The Philanthropic Fund is financially and administratively managed by Sitawi, which, with its expertise, works to ensure that the resources are applied efficiently and transparently.
In defense of the indigenous peoples of the Amazon
In celebration of Rede Liberdade’s five-year anniversary, the initiative created its first strategic human rights litigation office in the Amazon. This means that indigenous peoples and riverside communities can count on the Network’s legal and advocacy efforts to have their rights protected. The Fund seeks to defend the climate emergency and forest peoples, combat structural racism, and strengthen democracy and the guarantee of freedoms.
"The indigenous peoples and traditional communities of the Amazon, although they are the ones who contribute the least to climate change, are the most impacted by its devastating effects. This space is dedicated to protecting constitutional and human rights, ensuring the titling of territories, combating the legal insecurity of communities and mitigating the violence and violations they face.?, explains Amarilis Costa, executive director of Rede Liberdade.
"This is another step in our mission to ensure that the Amazon continues to be a place of life, diversity and resilience.”, he adds.
For more years of partnership
The Fundo Rede Liberdade has just renewed its partnership with Sitawi for a new period of management of the initiative's resources.
“We are very happy with this renewal. Continuing to be responsible for the financial management of such a significant project that provides defense to those in need is fully in line with what we believe as an organization.comments Yananda Lima, coordinator of partnerships and development in Philanthropy Management at Sitawi.
