Habits that impact: individual actions to conserve the environment

After millions of years of human life on planet earth, climate and environmental aspects have become a serious and urgent problem. Are several species extinct, devastated ecosystems, polluted rivers and a huge climate crisis? all of these issues threaten the well-being of the earth and are made worse by the actions of organizations that do not recognize the importance of biodiversity. At Sitawi, we believe that the socio-environmental impact should be a priority and thought out individually and collectively to have even more scope.

If you also believe that unity is strength and that this extends the conservation of the planet we call home, you should already know that small everyday actions can make a difference. By adding the efforts of each one, the environmental transformation is driven. For this reason, we have listed some tips for practical actions that, taken collectively, can turn the tide of climate and natural issues. Check out:

To make at home:

  • Give preference to products of sustainable origin

There are several companies that seek to produce in the most sustainable way possible, using recyclable materials and carrying out a correct disposal.

  • Use metal and glass objects that can be reused

Glass and metal objects last longer than plastic ones. In this way, they are discarded in smaller quantities.

  • Separate the trash

Selective collection favors recycling and ensures that garbage is disposed of correctly and less harmful to nature.

To do on the street:

  • Do not throw garbage on the floor

The accumulation of garbage in the streets obstructs drains, favors floods and pollutes the urban environment.

  • Avoid using disposable plastics

Non-biodegradable plastics take an average of 100 years to decompose. Therefore, using the same plastic more than once avoids pollution.

To do at work:

  • Start a carpooling group or take public transport

Cars are still the biggest cause of air pollution. Making the most of each vehicle's space reduces damage – as does traffic.

  • Take your water bottle

Each glass of water takes up to 100 years to decompose, taking your water bottle you avoid unnecessary waste production.

  • Prefer digital documents

A single sheet of paper requires 10 liters of water to produce. Using digital resources to sign and forward documents, you avoid unnecessary expense.

Together we make the strength

Many people do not see the potential of individual actions to conserve the environment. After all, they are small habits. It is necessary to think that it is not the actions of each one that will make the difference, but the joining of all parts. By sharing the responsibility for change, we join forces and reduce the degradation of the planet.

Collectivity encourages transformation purposes: if the more than 200 million Brazilians consumed only the recommended daily amount of water – changing the average 200 liters for 110 – it would be possible to save almost 20 billion liters of water per day, as indicated by data of the United Nations.

In addition to small actions

In addition to individual actions, it is also necessary to consider the largest consumers of natural resources: industry and agriculture. These sectors, together, are responsible for more than half of the water consumed throughout Brazil, in addition to having great responsibility for the emission of polluting gases and pollution of rivers and springs.

Considering that all forces are necessary – from the smallest to the most expressive – it is also necessary to think about sustainable alternatives for industrial and agricultural production. At Sitawi, we are pioneers in analyzing risks and opportunities and transforming them into financial instruments that promote nature conservation.
