How to enhance the work of inclusion of people with disabilities in the labor market

In the last 5 years, the number of people with disabilities included in the labor market has grown by more than 30%. Still, the statistics show a picture of exclusion. According to the IBGE (2010), in Brazil, 45 million people have some type of disability (PwD) (physical, mental, visual or hearing) and an estimated 9 million PwD aged between 15 and 60 years old fall into this category. in the quota law. Although there is a quota guaranteed by law, which generates a total of 900,000 jobs for people with disabilities (PwD), only 400,000 are currently employed.

For a change to occur in this scenario, it is essential that the actors involved – companies, recruitment agencies, inspection bodies – develop responsible work to ensure the exercise of these professionals.

In 2016, Sitawi supported an organization that has been transforming this reality. Egalitê establishes the connection between organizations and people with disabilities through the selection, training and monitoring of agents in this relationship, demonstrating to the market and society the value of equal opportunities. Founded in 2010, this social business has already placed more than 3,000 people with disabilities in the labor market.

Egalitê connects candidates with companies that seek to diversify their staff, including talent and changing the life perspective of a part of society that has difficulties in finding a job. It also offers free training through an e-learning platform, with content ranging from conduct in selection processes to sales techniques. In addition, it develops an awareness program on the subject, through training with managers and HR employees, making a great contribution to changing the mindset of organizations.

Aiming to increase the organization's positive socio-environmental impact, Sitawi Financeira do Bem supported the initiative through a socio-environmental investment. The mechanism consists of investing in businesses with a socio-environmental impact through a loan convertible into equity and will make it possible to increase its structure, reaching more and more candidates and organizations, in order to contribute to the transformation of the professional scenario for people with disabilities. It is estimated that by 2018, Egalitê's reach will reach 6,000 people included.

Last year, the special human resources company won the “Ruderman Prize in Inclusion 2016”, one of the most important global recognitions for initiatives that work with the inclusion of PwD. Jay Ruderman, President of the Ruderman Family Foundation, commented on the work developed by Egalitê:

“People with disabilities are one of the most untapped talent pools in the world. Employers often disregard them due to stigma and lack of information, yet inclusive employment is a key to full social inclusion. We are delighted to award the 2016 Ruderman Inclusion Award to Egalitê, an organization that works tirelessly to open doors to inclusive employment for people with disabilities.”
