Sitawi investment round closes in 5 hours and doubles impact on access to water in Ceará

This month, in just five hours, we raised R$600,000 for SISAR BCL on the Sitawi Platform. The amount was doubled by a private social investor, reaching R$1.2 million with more affordable conditions than those of the traditional market. This operation was made possible through matchfunding – a smart model that combines investments of different profiles to generate positive impact at scale.

The challenge of access to treated water

According to the 2024 Social Program Monitoring Report, more than half of the rural population of Ceará does not have access to treated water. In the countryside, the majority depend on cisterns, wells or sources that are not suitable for consumption. But this reality has been transformed by the work of SISAR – a model that guarantees sustainable access to drinking water and basic sanitation in rural communities.

“It was the first time we held a round focused on water and we saw with this extraordinary result how urgent this issue is in the country. Enabling investment for organizations with SISAR mitigates social inequalities and promotes quality of life for many people.”, highlights Ana Beatriz Villela, Impact Investment coordinator at Sitawi.

Meet Sisar:

The Integrated Rural Sanitation System (SISAR) is an organization made up of community associations in Ceará with the aim of guaranteeing sustainable access to drinking water and basic sanitation in the state's rural communities.

In this round of investment, the unit selected was SISAR BCL. Its operations already impact more than 131 thousand people in the Cururu Litoral Basin region, promoting:

  • Social inclusion;
  • Local income generation;
  • Reduction of rural exodus;
  • Sustainable use of water.
