This year, the city of Guarulhos – especially the Vila São Rafael Community – was awarded the Startup Weekend Change Makers, the first event focused on solving social problems that will involve communities and social leaders in favor of businesses with social impact.
The event will take place on March 27, 28 and 29 at Escola Estadual Ary Gomes (Rua Alegre, 213 – Guarulhos) and in 6 other cities in Brazil (Fortaleza, Goiânia, Teresina, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and Santana do Ipanema) and 7 other countries (Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, China, Japan, Germany and India) simultaneously, totaling more than 20 spaces for the creation of social impact startups.
Startup Weekend is a global event whose main mission is to mobilize and transform the local community through empowerment with business and entrepreneurship methodologies. The goal is to have startups created in 54 hours to get the idea off the ground and make the miracle happen, identify problems and opportunities in order to solve any problem.
A successful Brazilian case with the same purpose was the event that took place in Rio de Janeiro (http://riofavela.startupweekend.org/) last year, in which the winner was a 70-year-old man who created Plataforma Saúde (http://www.plataformasaude.net.br/).
