In yet another step towards developing the Social Impact Contracts (CIS) market, the Sitawi took over in September the management of the Technical Secretariat of the Latin American Network for Payment for Results (Red PxR) for the period 2020/2021. In that position, the Sitawi will be in charge of coordinating activities and monitoring the Network's work plan, with the aim of identifying opportunities for the development of the ecosystem of these instruments in the region.
Red PxR is a joint initiative between Sitawi and ten other organizations from countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Mexico and Peru, which work in different spheres in the promotion of payment for results instruments. Cooperation between countries is based on sharing lessons learned, strengthening technical capacities and articulating with actors from the public and private sectors the implementation of solutions that promote greater efficiency in social programs.
“CIS brings a new look to face social challenges. The focus on results encourages more efficient and flexible management, which allows programs to adjust to the real needs of individuals. Today we have some successful examples in Latin America, mainly in terms of access to employment. So, the exchange of learning and collaborative work between the countries that are at the forefront of these experiences is, without a doubt, a very rich process”, emphasizes Leonardo Letelier, CEO of Sitawi.
Since 2017, three CIS have been launched, two in Colombia and one in Argentina, promoting social interventions focused on solving barriers to access to employment for vulnerable groups. In 2020, the first Payment for Results Fund in the region was also implemented in Colombia.
THE Sitawi has been developing pioneering work in the area of Social Impact Contracts in Brazil, seeking innovation and supporting solutions that allow the contracting and financing of interventions that are complementary to public services. The process started with a partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) through the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) to develop this tool in the country, followed through collaboration with state governments to analyze the feasibility of CIS in the area of health and, in 2019, with the 1st Call for Social Impact Contracts for public managers.
