SIWF?15 held in Lisbon brings debate on innovation and social investment

Leonardo Letelier, CEO of Sitawi, participated in the World Forum on Social Innovations held at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon, Portugal, between the 25th and 26th of June. Under the theme: ?Social investment: an agenda for 2020?, the event promoted the discussion on the growth of social innovation worldwide and the role of social investment.

The first day of the event featured debates on global social innovations. In the second, however, the themes were projects for the social innovation of ecosystems, the catalytic role of foundations in pioneering impact investing, experiences of national working groups for the development of social investment markets and public policies for the construction of ecosystems of social innovation.

On the 26th, Leonardo Letelier participated in the 4th session at the table that addressed the theme of the role of work groups in the development of a social investment market. ?The theme of Social Finance is new and its exploration is still recent. In order to efficiently speed up this process, we are developing the recommendations in the Brazilian Social Finance Task Force, and trying to find out what is the best mix between what we are going to put in terms of vision, ambition, concrete recommendations and goals?, said Leonardo.

The CEO of Sitawi also stated that ?one of the first challenges that were mentioned here, in Portugal, and it is a challenge in the same ? if not bigger? in Brazil is the availability of information. […] But yes, the data is limited, but it shouldn't be limiting.?

The Forum held by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Portugal Inovação Social, with the technical support of the Social Investment Laboratory, featured award-winning social innovators, academics, policy makers and impact investors. Featured speakers included Nick Hurd, former UK Minister for Civil Society, Miguel Poiares Maduro, Minister for Regional Development and several others.
