{"id":18375,"date":"2022-11-25T18:09:35","date_gmt":"2022-11-25T21:09:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/?p=18375"},"modified":"2025-01-07T16:10:18","modified_gmt":"2025-01-07T19:10:18","slug":"sitawi-na-cop-27-impacto-socioambiental-positivo-para-o-futuro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/sitawi-na-cop-27-impacto-socioambiental-positivo-para-o-futuro\/","title":{"rendered":"Sitawi at COP 27: positive socio-environmental impact for the future"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"bsf_rt_marker\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We were at <strong>COP 27<\/strong> on <a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/o-que-sao-mudancas-climaticas-causas-consequencias-e-solucoes\/\">climate change<\/a> to understand the goals and design of actions that will ensure a new economy that is positive for people and nature in the coming years. The event, which has been taking place since 1995, brings together representatives of UN signatory countries and civil society organizations in debates and negotiations on the global challenges of <strong>climate agenda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year, the conference took place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, between November 6th and 18th. The expectation for the event was to take advantage of it to implement <strong>effective actions<\/strong>, leaving negotiations and future projects in the background. Despite the important developments, in practice, long and conflicting negotiations occurred, making it difficult to plan implementation actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At <strong>COP 27<\/strong>, we were represented by Heitor Dellasta, a specialist in Conservation and Climate Finance. He participated in discussion panels organized by several countries and organizations, focused on transitions towards <strong>low carbon economies<\/strong> that contribute positively to the <strong>biodiversity<\/strong>. It was an opportunity for dialogue, questioning and negotiation about the <strong>climate change<\/strong> and its relationships with conservation and society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About the event<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the practical results of <strong>COP 27<\/strong> was the establishment of a <strong>Loss and Damage Fund<\/strong> which will be financed by the most developed countries for the least developed countries that are most vulnerable to the negative impacts of the climate crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The concept of loss and damage corresponds to situations in which countries are no longer able to guarantee mitigation or adaptation, with immediate negative impacts. For Heitor, progress on this issue is the most expressive result of the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another important highlight of the conference was the <strong>Korovina Agreement<\/strong>, which recognizes the importance of the theme of <a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/alternativas-agricultura-sustentavel\/\">agriculture<\/a> in the context of climate change. This agreement establishes suggestions for practices that reconcile sustainable land use for climate and biodiversity.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heitor also highlighted the importance of <a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/bioeconomia-o-que-e-e-como-se-aplica-a-amazonia\/\">bioeconomy<\/a> and the union between <strong>human development<\/strong> and <strong>biodiversity conservation<\/strong>. <em>\u201cIf in the past we had a perspective that nature conservation and the climate agenda were obstacles to guaranteeing an increase in the quality of life and improving the well-being of the populations, now the proposal is to guarantee the incorporation of these themes, where the agendas climate change and conservation are seen as drivers of increased well-being and repositioning of the Brazilian economy at an international level\u201d<\/em>he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>For the future<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">THE <strong>COP 27<\/strong> was a moment of improvement for Sitawi. Our agenda of<strong> positive socio-environmental impact <\/strong>already foresees several ecosystem restoration measures that also consider socioeconomic development, but being on top of global agendas makes all the difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In <strong>Conservation and Climate Finance<\/strong>, we develop financial solutions to conserve biodiversity and address climate challenges. Therefore, discussing the best solutions to climate change is essential to our work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We understand that the future needs action now, which is why we are part of the organizations that work towards this goal.
