Equally critical is the issue of <a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/o-que-sao-mudancas-climaticas-causas-consequencias-e-solucoes\/\">climate change<\/a>, a <strong>loss of biodiversity<\/strong> focuses its main debate on <strong>Conferences of the Parties (COPs)<\/strong> from the <strong>Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)<\/strong>, an essential forum for the development of <a href=\"https:\/\/info.sitawi.net\/mapeamento_financas_de_conservacao\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">global solutions for biodiversity conservation<\/a>. Held every two years, it brings together the signatory countries of the <strong>CBD<\/strong> to discuss and establish agreements that ensure the <strong>protection of global biodiversity<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With increasing habitat degradation and the growing risk of species extinction, decisions made in <strong>COPs<\/strong> are crucial to implementing effective solutions. Each meeting gains more importance given the urgency of reversing this environmental crisis. In addition to the participation of <strong>countries<\/strong>, the Conference is also a key arena for the <strong>civil society<\/strong>, O <strong>private sector<\/strong> and <strong>local communities<\/strong>, which <a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/a-uniao-faz-a-forca-o-financiamento-da-conservacao-da-biodiversidade-como-uma-tarefa-conjunta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">play an important role<\/a> in ensuring that goals are met.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Agreements<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the milestones in <strong>Biodiversity COPs<\/strong> was the <strong>COP10<\/strong>, held in Japan in 2010, where the <strong>Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020<\/strong>, including the <strong>Aichi Targets<\/strong>. These global goals aimed to <strong>contain biodiversity loss<\/strong>, but unfortunately, none of them were completely achieved, and only six were partially met.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More recently, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/cop15-o-papel-da-sitawi-na-conservacao-da-biodiversidade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>COP15<\/strong><\/a>, carried out in two phases (2021 and 2022), was fundamental for the negotiation of the new <strong>Global Biodiversity Framework<\/strong>, which replaced the Aichi Targets.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A set of agreements were agreed <strong>4 objectives and 23 goals<\/strong> to be achieved by <strong>2030<\/strong>. These objectives are aimed at addressing the crises of <strong>biodiversity<\/strong> and of the <strong>ecosystems<\/strong>Some of the commitments include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>30\u00d730 Goal<\/strong>: protect 30% of terrestrial and marine areas by 2030.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Ecosystem restoration<\/strong>: restore at least 20% of degraded ecosystems globally.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Pollution reduction<\/strong>: reduce pollution from plastics, pesticides and other pollutants that directly affect biodiversity and ecosystems.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Respect for the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities<\/strong>: recognize and guarantee the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities over their lands and territories, promoting their <a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/povos-indigenas-e-sua-importancia-na-conservacao-da-biodiversidade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">participation in biodiversity management<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>COP 16<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next one <strong>COP16<\/strong>, which will take place in Cali, Colombia, from October 21 to November 1, 2024, will be the first after the adoption of the <strong>Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework<\/strong>. With the theme \u201cPeace with Nature\u201d, the conference invites countries to reflect on their economic models and the urgent need to rethink their relationship with natural resources, promoting a <strong>more sustainable future<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This will be the time to assess how countries are starting to implement these goals and what still needs to be done to ensure that commitments are met by 2030.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, in <strong>COP16<\/strong>, it is expected that the discussions will bring a greater emphasis on the connection between <a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/natureza-e-economia-uma-relacao-mutua\/\"><strong>biodiversity<\/strong> and <strong>economy<\/strong><\/a>, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/o-que-e-financiamento-climatico-e-qual-a-sua-importancia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>climate finance<\/strong><\/a><strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/o-que-e-financiamento-para-a-biodiversidade\/\">of biodiversity<\/a>, <\/strong>In other words, the need for <strong>mobilize significant financial resources<\/strong>, both from developed countries and multilateral institutions, to support developing regions in implementing their goals.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The role of Brazil<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No country has such favorable conditions as <strong>Brazil<\/strong> for <a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/biodiversidade-mudancas-climaticas\/\">to unite <strong>fight against climate change<\/strong> with the efforts of <strong>protect and regenerate biodiversity<\/strong><\/a>. As one of the countries with <strong>greatest biodiversity in the world<\/strong>, Brazil plays a central role in the negotiations of <strong>Biodiversity COP<\/strong>.
