Therefore, it has become essential that we move towards a <strong>a more sustainable and environmentally responsible economy<\/strong>. This is the <strong>bioeconomy<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is bioeconomy?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meaning of the term <strong>bioeconomy<\/strong> may vary depending on the context in which it is being used. However, the prevailing view is that <strong>economy based on knowledge and the use of natural resources, combining economic development with environmental protection,<\/strong> recognizing the importance of transitioning to models of <strong>low carbon<\/strong> and that <strong>respect the finiteness of natural resources<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Bioeconomy in the Amazon<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Being the largest tropical forest in the world, with a large presence of <a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/povos-indigenas-e-sua-importancia-na-conservacao-da-biodiversidade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">indigenous peoples<\/a> and traditional communities and more than 40 thousand species of plants, <strong>Amazon<\/strong> has enormous potential for <strong>bioeconomy<\/strong>, especially within the <strong>native production chains<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">THE <strong>Amazonian bioeconomy<\/strong> may be the key to the <strong>strengthening of productive activities of<\/strong> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/o-que-e-sociobiodiversidade\/\">sociobiodiversity<\/a><\/strong>, generating <strong>development for the region<\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/como-promover-a-valorizacao-dos-produtos-da-sociobiodiversidade-amazonica\/\">adding value to these products<\/a>. Furthermore, this type of<strong> economy<\/strong> focus on <strong>activities that keep the forest standing<\/strong>, such as the sustainable extraction of non-timber products. Combining <strong>science<\/strong>, <strong>technology<\/strong> and <strong>traditional knowledge<\/strong>, this approach seeks <strong>add economic value without compromising ecological balance<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Benefits of the bioeconomy<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Structure <strong>new models of economies based on biodiversity<\/strong> makes it possible, above all, to face two of the great environmental challenges of our time: <strong>the crisis of <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/o-que-sao-mudancas-climaticas-causas-consequencias-e-solucoes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>climate change<\/strong><\/a> and the <strong>biodiversity loss crisis<\/strong>. Some ways to foster this transformation include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Investment in innovation and research<\/strong>: support the creation of new materials, cosmetics, medicines and foods that use Amazonian biodiversity in a sustainable way;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Capacity building and empowerment of local communities<\/strong>: promote training programs in sustainable management techniques and entrepreneurship for local communities, offering technical support and training to ensure greater added value to products;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Development of sustainable value chains<\/strong>: encourage production chains that use forest inputs without harming the ecosystem, such as a\u00e7a\u00ed, chestnut, pirarucu, essential oils or <a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/andiroba-a-semente-que-gera-renda-e-planos-para-moradores-do-territorio-medio-jurua\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">andiroba<\/a>;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Investment in businesses that contribute to the standing forest<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/emprestimocoletivo.com.br\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">invest<\/a> in local organizations that promote conservation and <a href=\"https:\/\/sitawi.net\/en\/desenvolvimento-sustentavel\/\">sustainable development<\/a>, generating an economic cycle that values the forest;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Creating strategic partnerships<\/strong>: encourage collaborations between companies, governments, organizations and communities to finance and promote<strong> Amazonian bioeconomy<\/strong>, strengthening the sector and expanding its positive impact.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By embracing the <strong>bioeconomy<\/strong>, Brazil can lead by example, showing how <strong>natural resources<\/strong> can be used responsibly to generate <strong>economic growth<\/strong> while <strong>preserves biodiversity<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Success story: Middle Juru\u00e1 Territory Program<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/info.sitawi.net\/comm_fcc_relatorio_final_ptmj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Juru\u00e1 Middle Territory Program (PTMJ)<\/strong><\/a>, in Amazonas, is a successful example of how we can boost <strong>bioeconomy<\/strong> in practice.
