In 2025, the third hottest year ever recorded on the planet, climate disasters affected more than 336,000 people in Brazil and caused losses of R$ 3.9 billion, according to the report. Climate Status, Climate Extremes and Disasters in Brazil<\/a>, from Cemaden. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These numbers have something in common: those who contributed the least to carbon emissions feel the effects sooner, more intensely, and for longer. Riverside communities, indigenous peoples, quilombola communities, and family farmers are on the front lines of this. climate crisis<\/a> And yet, they remain far from having the resources available to confront it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Climate finance has not yet reached the territories.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Large energy and infrastructure projects concentrate the majority of capital in financing. Market logic tends to favor larger companies and formal structures. Businesses that work for the benefit of communities and protect biomes, however, do not compete in this field and still have few financial instruments suited to their reality.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was to understand this gap that the Climate Ventures<\/a> and the Sitawi Finan\u00e7as do Bem<\/a> They initiated a process of study and investigation that lasted for months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What the study investigated<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Climate Ventures, through its Climate Justice Innovation Lab (CJIL) and its Financial Instruments Task Force, in partnership with Sitawi Finan\u00e7as do Bem, analyzed 689 organizations operating in vulnerable territories, mapped more than 50 financial instruments in operation in Brazil, and conducted more than 30 interviews throughout the process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The results detail where the misalignment between capital supply and demand lies, which existing mechanisms actually reach areas where traditional financing fails, and what would be needed to change this reality, both for investors and philanthropy, as well as for intermediary organizations and public policy makers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
